One Chapter Closes and Another One Opens
As many of you know, Bob and I spent most of our working lives at Spring Ridge Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We planted the first vines in 1980. Cultivating Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for 34 great years was a labor of both love and satisfaction. It has been a pleasure to champion the Santa Cruz Mountains and the non-interventionist, Burgundy-style winemaking that Bob put into every barrel of wine he made. As most of you also know by now, our goals diverged from that of Spring Ridge’s owner, Kirk Neely, so with the 2014 vintage, it was time to close that chapter of our lives.
To that end we are offering the last of the 2013 Varner Hidden Block, Picnic Block and Upper Picnic Pinot Noirs and the 2014 Varner Three Blocks Pinot Noir. The 2013’s are showing beautifully right now, with the Hidden Block in particular standing out.
We’ll ship the end of October/first of November, weather depending. One note, please order by October 19th. After that we’ll open it up to those not on our mailing list.
Also available are our two newest wines from Santa Barbara, El Camino Chardonnay and Los Alamos Pinot Noir. Antonio Galloni has praised the region in his latest reviews:
“Santa Barbara is one of the most exciting and dynamic regions anywhere in the world. Each year, new vineyards, estates and projects pop up seemingly without end in the expansive pristine stretch of land that encompasses Santa Barbara County. The daring, innovative spirit embodied by the region’s young producers and a vast range of first-class sites creates conditions that are ideal for the production of distinctive, pedigreed wines of the highest level. Best of all, with few exceptions, these wines remain under the radar and very fairly priced relative to global peers. On a strictly personal level, these qualities, along with the region’s stunning natural beauty, make Santa Barbara one of my favorite places in the world to spend time in.”
Its great to be on board in Santa Barbara!
